‘Villa Residents’ to go to Gdynia Film Festival

‘Villa Residents’ is to vie at the Gdynia Film Festival in Poland.

Iranian filmmaker Monir Qeidi’s debut feature ‘Villa Residents’ (Vilaeeha) is picked for screening at the 2020 annual Gdynia Film Festival (GFF) in Poland.

Starring Tannaz Tabatabaee, Ali Shadman, and Anahita Afshar, ‘Villa Residents’ will mark its 14th international screening at the Gdynia filmfest which is set for September 24 to 27.

Produced by Saeed Malekan with the collaboration of the Farabi Cinema Foundation, ‘Villa Residents’ is set during the Iran-Iraq war when some of the families of the Iranian soldiers stayed at residential villas near the frontline waiting to see their loved ones.

The flick is the winner of the Best Supporting Actress award from the 58th Asia-Pacific Film Festival, as well as the second prize of the Vitré Iranian Film Festival.

So far, ‘Villa Residents’ has been screened at Kerala International Film Festival in India, Dhaka International Film Festival in Bangladesh, Asian Film Festival in Spain, and also in the Bucharest Asian Film Festival in Romania.

As one of the biggest film events in Poland, the GFF is a highlight of the Polish cinema. But it is not exclusively about Polish cinematography as films from all around the world also go on display at the event.
